Mission + Vision
Sound End Improvement Corporation was founded in 1978 by community activist, Elfrieda Textores, and members of the South End Concerned Citizens. Their goal was to draw attention to the needs of the South End, tap into funding for housing and public improvements, and give residents a voice in decision-making affecting their neighborhood.
Forty years later, we remain a critical partner in the revitalization of Albany’s largest downtown district aiming to help residents of the South End improve the condition of their homes and quality of their neighborhood.
As stewards of the South End, we promote fair housing through preservation and development.
A diverse, vibrant, and inclusive community where residents have equal access to services and quality housing.
OUR 3 STEP PLAN THAT GUIDES US IN CARRYING OUT OUR MISSION IS
keeps existing housing safe and healthy while increasing the longevity of the housing stock.
increases homeownership opportunities and decrease sub-standard housing.
includes larger housing projects, partnering with established developers, and increasing capacity to implement said projects.
